Subsequently became a member of the Coastal Dock Rivers and Harbour Works Union and was Secretary of that Union and its successors for 25 years. Retired from the Maritime Workers Union in 1973. Established in 1911 as the Coastal Dock, River and Harbour Works Union. After a period of de-registration from 1952-1955, the Union emerged as the Federated Ship Painters' and Dockers' Union of Australia, Western Australia Branch. In 1971, the name of the union changed to the Maritime Workers Union. In 1987, the union amalgamated with the Seamen's Union of Australia on a federal level.
